The Book of Gutsy Women

March is Women's History Month. What better way is there to celebrate than to learn about some of the women, past and present, who have stepped out in faith, courage, and conviction to change their part of the world, and consequently, change the world for all of us!

One book that I recently enjoyed was "The Book of Gutsy Women: Favorite Stories of Courage and Resilience", co-written by Hillary Rodham Clinton and Chelsea Clinton. The book is divided into sections featuring women and their achievements in art, science, sports, technology, activism, medicine, politics, education, literature, and much more. Each story provides the background, inspiration, struggles and challenges of a particular woman - and her resultant accomplishments.

This book is so well-written, clear and direct! I enjoyed and appreciated learning about these amazing women who did what they could to change their corner of the world and open the doors for women to move forward, while making life better for those around them. They are portrayed as real women with real life struggles, overcoming challenges while pursuing their dreams. Inspiring and angering and hopeful all at the same time, you can't help but want to find a way to make a difference in the world yourself. This book caused me to tear up at times and smile at others. I consider it a must-read for everyone, but especially for women. It gives us role-models who make us proud!

The authors alternate stories, and often interject commentary into each other's writings. The book is easily readable, and can be done in small segments of a story or two at a time. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style and format of the book.

I also appreciated learning more about women throughout history that I didn't know much about before, and learning about women that I had never heard of before. If you are looking for one book to read in honor of women during this month, this is the book that I would recommend!
